The
Otey Music Theory System is the result of more than 50 years of
research. Orlando Otey, the Mexican born pianist who gave his first
concerts at age 5 began examining the fundamentals of music during his
coursework at Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA where he
was awarded a scholarship for his compositions in 1946.

For
many years Dr. Otey has endeavored to organize and systematize music
theory into a practical teaching approach. In addition to improving
theory methods and reading skill training for his students, Otey has
identified and clarified several inconsistencies in conventional music
theory. These findings have been the topic of discussion by scholars at
the highest levels of music education in the United States.
